Aerial Photos of our Neighborhood - Post Fire

Click on images for larger view

This is a good one that shows just how close things got. You can see the green trees to the west (left) of the garage. All the trees in that area used to be that green. Now they are either totally gone or the leaves are burn but still on the trees. There is also a blank area to the south - the trees there right next to the house burned down.
The big green patch to the south is the cemetery. It gets so much water it never burns. It makes a nice fire break for those folks on the other side!

This image shows the immediate neighborhood. Our place is just off the top-right of the image. There are 10 homes in this area - 5 of them were burned to the ground. Or closest neighbor (who had rebuilt after loosing his home in a big fire about 15 years ago) got lucky too and just had an outbuilding burn. The first started to burn his porch, but luckily petered out.

This shot is from the north of the property looking south. All the land on that hillside that looks just fine - well, that used to be covered in shrubs. Now it is totally bare. Look close and you can see that the homes on the bottom of the image were very lucky - fire burned right up to their backyards.

More detail of some of the neighboring homes.

This one shows how the fire split and took different paths. It really is a dynamic beast that takes the path of least resistance. Fuel and wind control it and it goes some odd ways. This is why you see homes gone here and there with others standing alone untouched.

At the top of the image is Eagle Crest. The fire burned through some of that area, but didn't get any homes. It mostly skipped around the north end where it split heading up the valley to the north, and also turning west and up into our neighborhood.
